Terms of use
These terms apply when you use sewagemap.org.uk. By using the site, you accept them. Last updated 27 October 2026.
What the site does
Sewage Map brings together official storm overflow records and recent water company monitor reports. It shows them on maps and local pages, with links to the original data. The site is free to use and needs no account.
An independent site
Sewage Map is not run by a water company, the Environment Agency, a council or any other regulator. It does not speak for them. The original publisher remains the official source for each record.
Limits of the data
A monitor report shows whether a storm overflow monitor recorded a discharge. It does not show how much sewage was released, bacteria levels or whether water is safe to swim in or enter. It does not show whether a company broke the law or whether you may visit an outlet. Do not use this site to make those decisions.
For bathing advice, check the official bathing water profile and local signs. To report pollution, contact the Environment Agency or the water company, as described in our reporting guide.
Data can be late, missing or wrong
We copy official data as published and keep missing values as unknown. Source data can contain errors, change later or arrive late. Company feeds can stop working, and a recent report may not reflect the current state. Each page shows its dates and sources so you can check them. See how the data works for details.
We work to keep the site accurate, but we do not promise that it is complete, current or free of errors. If you need to rely on a figure, check the original source.
Use the site fairly
You may use the site for personal, research, campaign, education and news purposes. Do not overload the site, scrape it at high volume, try to break its security or interfere with other people using it. We may block traffic that does this. If you need the underlying data in bulk, use the official sources listed on the sources page.
Source licences
The data belongs to its publishers and is used under their licences, such as the Open Government Licence and CC BY 4.0. Keep the stated attribution if you reuse it. Map tiles are from CARTO and use OpenStreetMap data. The sources page lists each source, its licence and its dates.
Links to other sites
The site links to official records and other services. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their availability.
Advertising
The site may show advertising to help cover hosting and data costs. Ads are labelled and come from third parties. An advert is not an endorsement by Sewage Map. The privacy page explains how the site uses data.
Liability
The site is provided as it is. We are not liable for loss caused by relying on its data, by delays or errors in source data, or by the site being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms when the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Email contact@sewagemap.org.uk to report a mistake or ask about these terms.
