Filters apply to the map and list. Recent stops need a current report and a recorded stop time. They do not show whether water is safe.

From the Environment Agency 2025 annual return, ranked from 14,239 outlets with a reported figure. Equal figures share a rank. These figures cover the whole year, not today. Monitor coverage is the share of the year the monitor worked, so a low figure can mean an incomplete count.

Total time the monitor recorded discharge.
Only outlets with a reported count and monitor coverage of at least 90%. A zero does not show that the water was clean.

The map combines outlet locations and annual spill records with recent reports from water companies. The latest annual figures cover 2025. They describe the whole year and are separate from today’s monitor reports.
The 2025 records contain 292,119 recorded spills. A usable spill count is missing for 64 outlets, so the total does not treat those records as zero. A link to a live feed also does not mean its monitor is always working.
Area pages bring nearby outlets together. The 10 km search radius follows distance from a local map point, rather than council boundaries or the route water takes downstream.
Enter a postcode or town, or select “Use my location”. The search shows outlets within 10 km of that point. You can also search by outlet name, receiving water or company. Open a result to see its latest available report and annual spill history.
It means the latest available company report says the outlet is not discharging. It does not tell you whether the water is clean. Pollution can come from other sources, and a monitor can miss an event or stop sending updates.
We check the company feeds every 15 minutes. Each company publishes on its own schedule, so the time shown on a report can be earlier than our last check. If we cannot get a recent report, we say so and keep any older report clearly dated.
This release covers outlets in the Environment Agency’s England annual dataset. It does not provide complete coverage for Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Some records are operated by companies that also work in Wales.
Use the official bathing-water page and local notices before you go. A sewage monitor reports activity at an outlet; it does not measure the bacteria in the water where you plan to swim. Our bathing-water pages link to the official advice.
Some annual records do not have a matching live feed. Others have a monitor that is offline or a feed that has stopped updating. These are shown as unknown or unavailable, rather than as an outlet with no discharge.
